The final new blog I will write is about the plans for the
new Falcons stadium. It’s officially official that we will have a new Falcons
Stadium. Woot woot! So we have had the Georgia Dome for quite some time now.
Many teams in the NFL have updated their stadiums, costing millions, if not,
billions of dollars. For example, the Cowboys stadium has state of the art roof
technology and electronics. The new
Falcons stadium plans bring the price right above one billion dollars.
So how are we going to pay for the stadium? It is stated
that about 300 million is expected to come from residents; however, this money
is coming from the hotel/motel tax. This means that the tax from staying in
hotels will be raised to 8%. This is a win-win for Georgians because visitors
in Georgia will be paying that extra tax, not us. Because this hotel/motel tax
was used successfully to build three other large NFL stadiums, Atlanta is
pretty confident that this financial plan will work. The other 700 billion is expected to come from
private investors.
The Falcons team is said to prefer an open-air stadium as
opposed to the closed roof of the current Georgia Dome. The new stadium is
planned to have a retractable-roof. This will allow an open-aired stadium for
good weather and a closed stadium for undesirable weather.
The terms for this new stadium currently allow the Falcons
to control the revenue for the stadium, but also they must pay “any related
costs”. This stadium will be able to hold larger crowds and will hopefully
bring in more football fans from out of state, bringing more revenue to the
state of Georgia.
Not only will this stadium bring in more fans for the
Falcons, but the agreement to build this stadium includes a Non-relocation
agreement. This agreement keeps the Falcons in Atlanta for another 30 years,
allowing growth for larger fan base and gives current fans confidence that the
Falcons are here to stay.
