4th post - current event: The existence of Georgia charter schools all left up to a vote

In a recent copy of the New York Times that was published just this week, there was an announcement made to the state of Georgia over the issue of whether charter schools should continue to exist in the state or not. Now, charter schools are schools that receive public funds but operate under the conditions of private schools. The issue of whether they should continue or not is arising from some federal studies that were recently performed that stated that charter schools have had no significant improvement towards academic performance or attendance issues. Now, as a result of these studies, the board of education of Georgia has made the decision to leave the voters of Georgia to decide whether public schools should be continued to be funded or not.
This event is important for the state of Georgia because it allows the citizens of Georgia to have more opportunities in national government decisions in both federal and state level elections. The federal election was just this week with the presidential elections, which was Georgia's key moment to participate in national politics for the year. Now it's time for Georgia to participate in making a key decision in a state-wide election for the year.
This could influence the whole country nationally because if Georgia does go though with the discontinuing of charter schools and the decision ends up being positive to the state, other states may want to follow though the same decision. There were some other moments in history where one state takes the lead to do something that ends up being very nationally beneficial and other states follow that state in that action. This election could be Georgia's moment to start a national movement.
