Current Event Post #4: Stomach Virus Sickens Students at Douglas Elementary

This week, while we went to school as normal and healthy as ever, children at Douglas Elementary were being pulled out by the dozens as a stomach flu struck the school. There were over 100 absences from the school due to sickness by from Monday to Yesterday, 3 days, alone. The school's janitor's are working hard to sanitize the school and taking extra precautions, stated the school principal Duffey. The school nurse was especially helpful by helping the parents care for the children and apply the correct medications and the parents were cooperative to help things run along more smoothly. The virus is expected to be completely eradicated from the school by Monday with all the students feeling well enough again for teaching to recommence normally. This incident should show us to take extra precautions in hygiene, especially with children and especially during winter/ late fall. Because of the example this school set by handling the situation so swiftly and effectively, schools else where have a model to follow to best handle a virus spreading through students. We can all be more careful now that we have seen what careless hygiene can do. Most of us don't give a second thought about germs spreading, and I think that is mostly because we can't see the germs actually spreading and growing. There are a lot of stupid things I have seen people do that can contribute to getting them ill. If we can just pay more attention then more epidemics like these can be prevented and multiple kids can be saved a trip home from school.
