Current Event 11/8

Dunwoody, a city in the state of Georgia, has one of the lowest ratios of police officers to population. City Leaders have been notified of this shortage, and have now raised the funding for the DPD (Dunwoody Police Department) 14%. DPD Chief, Billy Grogan, thinks that this shortage of law enforcement leads to an increase in crimes all over he city. You might think "Dunwoody sure seems like a terrible place to live with all that crime", but in fact, John's Creek, another huge metro Atlanta city, only has .08 police officers per 1,000 people (compared to Dunwoody's .09 officers per 1,000 people). However, Johns Creek has not significantly increased police funding at all. The article goes on to state "Nearby cities, such as Alpharetta, Roswell and Sandy Springs, have much higher ratios of officers for their populations" and that more funding for both Dunwoody and Johns Creek is needed to keep these cities clean, crime-free areas.
