Internet Addiction 11/11

In today's world occurs many types of addictions: drugs, alcohol, or gambling, but now, a new type of addiction has emerged: internet addiction. With the emergence of newer technologies in video games and the internet, people are now becoming addicted. Studies have shown that people who are addicted to the internet, display changes in the decision-making parts of the brain that are regular with other types of addictions. However, the critics state that there is no such thing as internet addiction; it is simply a bad habit. The proving fact that separates this addiction from a habit, is that addicts actually have a physical dependence on the internet, instead of a bad practice. Additionally, when the internet stimuli is removed, people show similar results as withdrawals from drugs, alcohol, gambling, caffeine, etc. One of the reasons people become addicted to the internet, is the fact that video games and internet gaming promote a sense of winning--whereas in the real world, people don't receive that satisfaction. Another, is that people can't escape; for them there is just one more conversation, or one more level, or one more life. It is difficult for them to completely unplug and let go.
