Choice Post 11/1

One article that I found interesting, was an article on the childhood of prodigies. The article makes a comparison to those whose parents, like Lang Lang's, an American piano prodigy, began "telling him to commit suicide, refusing any praise, browbeating him into abject submission — [that today] would count as child abuse" against the parents that "fail to support a child’s passion for his own gift and deprive him of the only life that he would have enjoyed." The article states that the best way to raise a prodigy, is somewhere in the middle; where you push him or her to be the best he or she can be, but also make sure that his or her whole childhood isn't consumed by the never-ending pursuit of perfection.

The other article I found interesting was one about the possible association between hurricane Sandy, and climate change. Scientists are wondering if the recent storm surge could have been caused by the rising of the sea level, and if the hurricane itself was a byproduct of warming waters. The way hurricanes get their energy is by traveling over large distances of warm water. Sandy could have been a much smaller hurricane if it had traveled over colder water.
