Hello my friends, this is my second blog post, and yes, it gets nerdier than AI...
Every year a bunch of geeks gather together to feast upon mutton and relive the 1400s... have you guessed the occasion? Well if you guessed the Renaissance Festival in Fairburn, Georgia you deserve a pat on the back and you should probably go take a walk and shine some light on your sun-starved skin. Although I do not share all the commonalities of the people associated with this event, I find it difficult to pretend I'm not interested. I am still attending a therapist once a week to make sure this doesn't get serious... But in all seriousness, this event, home to some of the strangest people you will ever come in contact with, brings an educational value as well as "dinner and a show". Inside the fences, guarded by colorfully-clothed jesters, one can see tournaments of jousting to small stations inhabited by actors who portray different characters from the medieval era. These displays are not only quite comical, but include a lesson on the culture of different characters during the late middle ages. After you have soaked up a plethora of tales of beer-drinking and mutton chomping adventures, you start to feel a little hungry yourself. Well what do you know? There is an entire food court overflowing with alcoholic beverages(if you are over 21 of course) to consume, in addition to all the meat that one might desire. To top it all off there are swords, yes, swords, Authentic, pointy, sharp, and shiny sabres. When all is said and done, your stomach is close to bursting, or you can barely stand, its time to go home. In all honesty, without this event allowing us to experience, to an extent, the lifestyle of the late middle ages, I feel the culture and passion for knights and other medieval characters would not be as lively. With over 250,000 annual attendance I'd say this event influences kids to dress up as knights for Halloween as well as spike interests in video games recounting the lives and events of the later middle ages.
