iPhone 5 vs. Samsung Galaxy SIII

One of the most debated topics today concerns the opinion on what is the "best" smartphone on the market. In this post, I will focus on the top two contenders: the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy S III. Although this battle's root's can be traced back to the general war about the superior operating system, I chose to only compare the S3 because it is considered the best phone with the Android OS. Fans of cell phone technology are focused on three main features: speed, capabilities, and ease of use, and the balance of the three is what determines the greatness of the phone. For example, no body wants a phone with millions of apps and extremely fast, but you can't figure out how to send a basic text message. Likewise, a phone with rapid speed and only four simple apps to put your hands on will be a failure among smartphone fanatics. The reason the battle between the iPhone 5 and the S3 has extreme followers to either side is because of the brilliant approaches by each side to make a visually and mechanically beautiful phone. Let's start out with some straight-up facts: The iPhone 5 has a screen that measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and weighs around 112 grams while Galaxy S3 carries a dimension of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6 mm and weighs in at 133 grams. The Galaxy has a larger screen but, this sacrifices a good 20 more grams over the weight of the iPhone. Each phone has an 8 megapixel camera on the outside and the Galaxy can boast a 1.9 MP front camera versus the 1.3 MP iPhone camera, "However, the iSight camera in iPhone 5 includes features like backside illumination, a hybrid IR filter, a five-element lens, f/2.4 aperture, spatial noise reduction, dynamic low-light mode and faster photo capture. Further, the iSight camera is the first Apple camera technology to have Panorama mode, which will allow users to capture large horizontal panoramic images" (Abhinaya Prabhu, Gizbot.com). Apple, creators of the retina display, have left other companies scrambling to match the beauty of the iPhone's screen. The S3, on the other hand, can brag about having twice as much RAM as the iPhone 5, as well as having a processor that barely, but surely beats the iPhone's. The battery on the Galaxy whips the iPhone's by a contest of 2100 mAh to 1440 mAh, outlasting with 11.5 hours of talk to 8 hours of talk.

Okay, so now that you have the facts it's time for me to lay down my verdict. Although the S3 beats the iPhone 5 in a few specification areas, it is the iPhone that wins the contest because of it's smooth user interface combined with above average stats. The contest, however, is which phone will appeal to the most amount of people. The S3 is perfect for a smaller amount of people because tech savvy people will appreciate the flexibility of its operating system, but with that to the side the iPhone's ability to connect to you through the customization and ease of use creates a personality that can only be found on an iPhone. The durability, community, and the ease-of-access is what will appeal to the majority of consumers.
