As we get closer to this year's election, it is becoming the topic of many conversations. One of the aspects being talked about right here in Johns Creek is how high the election costs are. In the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the article Elections cost more in Fulton than other counties Ralph Ellis brings it to the attention of many Fulton residents that we pay way more to hold elections than in other counties. This effects not only "grow-ups" but kids our age too. The costs are not most likely going down anytime soon, however we are going to be voters in a couple of years. Soon we will be the grown-ups that have to pay to hold elections and Ellis says that an AJC study showed that Fulton County charged Alpharetta over double what Cobb county charged Marietta to hold an election. The truely absurd part about these numbers is that Marietta has roughly 17,600 more residents than Alpharetta. So the cost for Alpharetta's election should have been considerably less than that of Marietta. Fulton charges an upfront bill that includes the cost of a run-off and when we do not have a run-off they do refund the cities, but perhaps charging a large upfront charge is not the right way to charge the cities. Maybe Fulton should try a method of another county.
