Choice Blog : Women and War Competition

After almost eight weeks of hard work, we have made it.  The cast and crew of Women and War, Johns Creek High School's One Act play directed by the drama department head Debbie Prost, have journeyed through the figurative battlefield of technical difficulties, line cuts, and stress in order to be prepared to perform for an audience.

Women and War is a chronicle of the wars throughout American history.  The play centers around the crucial roles women held, but the main storyline is that of three couples, whose respective husbands are out in combat.  These couples communicate through letters, in which they express how much they miss each other and what life is like in different parts of the world.
Other characters are introduced throughout the play, and they each have different stories to tell.  We see soldiers, nurses, researchers, "Hello Girls," "Doughnut Gals," camp followers, and much more.  No character is alike--they all have their own personalities and views on the war.  The stories these characters tell are not all happy ones; in fact, most are very sad.  The play brings the audience into the situations the characters go through, and many audience members develop empathy towards these characters and want them to conquer their unfortunate situations.
