YO - 1st blog.
For a blog that is going to be based around current events, no events are more current than those happening in third world countries that not many people hear about. In Pakistan recently, gunmen part of the Taliban extremist group killed a polio vaccinator who's job was to go door-to-door and administer polio drops for free for children under the age of 5. The area in which the shooting occurred is called the province of Baluchistan, a province on the border of Afghanistan and Iran. The area has a history of religious violence between the majority Sunni and minority Shi'ite population. The Taliban take credit for the shooting, publicly condemning the campaign for supposed "espionage" with the doctors and the Pakistani government.
I think one of the biggest things to take away from this is how difficult it is for progress to occur in third world nations. Until religious extremist groups like the Taliban can be eradicated, they will continue to control all government policy and maintain power over the people. Until national governments can let go of the corruption controlling them, harmful movements like these will have free reign over the innocent population. There cannot be a better time for state-sponsored aid efforts from first world nations to help out. Private organizations will continue to be passionate, but the scale on which they can help is minimal compared to the impact that a large-scale government organization.

choice is due tomorrow and it doesn't have to do with current events.
