AI

What's up everybody,
This is my first blog post, and it's about video games. More specifically, the AI, or artificial intelligence, involved within the games. AI refers to techniques used in computer and video games to produce the illusion of intelligence in the behavior of non-player characters. The growth in knowledge in this particular subject as increased exponentially in recent years, and contests are held internationally that judge the "humanness" of a robot by comparing it to an actual human.  What really intrigued me was the process of determining the winner of the competition. A test devised by a man named Alan Turing almost 100 years ago stated that we will never be able to see inside a machine's hypothetical consciousness, so the best measure of machine sentience is whether it can fool us into believing it is human.  The judges of these competitions are asked to differentiate between the robot and the human, and being almost identical, this decision is a difficult one to make. Forget about how hard it is to judge the competition, the real struggle is the actual designing of these highly intelligent programs. The main difference between humans and machines is the fact that the decisions made by humans are based almost entirely off of emotions. This painstaking struggle to emulate human emotions through computer controlled is what ceases to amaze me. These computer scientists actually simulate random human events and drives within the human mind. Overall, the study and advancement of artificial intelligence has reached a point to where it is very difficult to discern the difference between them and a human. This really makes you think of what is to come for the world of computers.
